Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is undergoing a transformation in its Melbourne office with new premises, new staff, new instruments and a new enthusiasm.
At the end of December, the team packed up the old office and moved to new premises in Rowville. After almost 20 years, we had outgrown our Mt Waverley offices. The new facility houses a larger warehouse, offices, conference space, instrument demonstration area and a new service facility that caters for Victoria and Tasmania as well as specialised service needs from further afield. The new building gives us the space to house all the resources we need to deliver the service our customers expect.

Our email and mobile phone contacts remain unchanged but our address and direct dial numbers are now:

Victorian and Tasmanian customers are now supported by a bigger team based in Melbourne. Joining experienced Service Engineers Mr Nigel Dunn and Mr Haiping Qain and Regional Manager Dr Paul Wynne are three new staff. Mr Jamie Swaile (jamie.swaile@shimadzu.com.au) joined the team in November as a Technical Sales Specialist and brings extensive experience in UHPLC, mass spectrometry and applications in the life sciences to the company.

Mr Bernd Harrasser (bernd.harrasser@shimadzu.com.au) became part of the Shimadzu team in September as a Technical Sales Specialist and has broad experience in industrial chemistry and physical testing equipment as well with HPLC and MS systems. Bernd travels regularly to Tasmania and regional Victoria.

Dr Simon Egan (simon.egan@shimadzu.com.au) joined Shimadzu in October as a Service and Applications Specialist. Simon is well known in Melbourne for his experience in HPLC, UHPLC, mass spectrometry and spectroscopy and is now adding specialist training in Wyatt light scattering instruments to his repertoire.

Dr Wynne (paul.wynne@shimadzu.com.au), Regional Manager for Victoria and Tasmania and Business Manager for Mass Spectrometry for Australia and New Zealand is also an applications specialist in gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and sample preparation. He said of the changes, "I am delighted to have Bernd, Jamie and Simon joining the team. Their broad experience and professionalism is an important part of Shimadzu's effort to improve our service to customers and they reinforce the many years of service experience that the team has in Nigel and Haiping. We all have skills that are complimentary and so as a team we can offer customers far more than they might expect. Over coming months, we hope that all our customers will notice a difference in the way we work. Whenever we visit our customers, old or new, it is always our intention to bring something positive to the meeting. With that in mind, we hope that you will take the time to have a chat."

The Victorian and Tasmanian regions are also home to Shimadzu's Fostering Science in Education Programme with the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Science HPLC Laboratory and HPLC Schools and Specialist Teaching Laboratores at Swinburne and Victoria Universities and Hoppers Crossing Secondary College.
